Questions/Problems:

Q: Is MasterSplitter compatible with Windows XP?
A: Yes.

Q: Is there a Mac version?
A: Sorry, no Mac version. No plans for one at this time either.

Q: Can I just append some more pieces to the end of a file that I have previously joined when I get the pieces?
A: Just rename the joined file to *.001, where * corresponds to the new pieces that you want to append, and choose "Skip Missing Pieces". That should do it.

Q: I am having trouble joinging video format files like .avi, .mov, .mpg, or .mpeg. What do I need to know to join those types of files?
A: If you want to join these types of files downloaded from the net there are a couple of things that you need to know. The .000 file that MasterSplitter creates is special file containing checksums and the number of pieces to confirm that nothing has gone wrong with the pieces since the file was originally split. Also, files from news groups are often corrupt. Either during the upload and encoding process or on the way down. This happens often and has nothing to do with MasterSplitter. If you don't have the .000 file, which is usually very small (~40 bytes), then the pieces should start from .001 and continue sequentially to the last piece. If they are not sequential, then you should rename them so that they are. Also the first piece of an .mpeg file (.001) is the most important, if its not there, the file will not play after being joined. However the remaining pieces do not all have to be there as long as they are number sequentially..

Q: When I launch the program, I get the following message:
MSTSPLIT caused an invalid page fault in module MFC42.DLL.
How do I solve this problem?
A: This is a known problem with some of the newer Microsoft DLLs. You need to visit the Microsoft Windows Update site and apply the Windows Library Upgrade. Goto the following site and select the "product update" options and apply the "critical updates":
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Download and install the update and that should fix the problem.

Q: When I run the Setup.exe program of MasterSplitter gives me the error missing source files. Why does this happen?
A: First unzip ALL the files from the mspt32.zip file to an empty directory, say your "C:\TEMP" directory (also sometimes referred to as a folder). If you don't get them all in the same directory, you'll get the error message described. Then double click on the setup.exe file from explorer and you should be off and running..

Q: Are TomaSoft Corporation's Products Y2K Compliant?
A: TomaSoft Corporation's Y2K Product Statement:
The most recent versions of TomaSoft Corporation's software products MasterSplitter 1.9 and MasterGauges 1.9 have been tested according to their documented system requirements by TomaSoft Corporation for year 2000 (Y2K) compliance and these products are, to the best of our knowledge, year 2000 compliant.

We interpret the statement "Year 2000 Compliant", to mean that a when a product is tested with accurate date data in accordance with its documentation, it is not observed to produce errors in processing date information in connection with the year change from December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000, provided that all other products (e.g., other software, firmware, and hardware) used with the product in question are also "Year 2000 Compliant". A Year 2000 Compliant product will also recognize the Year 2000 as a leap year.

This statement does not constitute a warranty or extend the terms of any existing warranty. Your use of TomaSoft Corporation's software is governed by the terms in the license agreement provided with the associated product. The information available from TomaSoft Corporation regarding the Year 2000 is provided for the sole purpose of assisting our customers in their planning of the transition to the Year 2000.

Note that the TomaSoft year 2000 compliance statement is limited from the year 1970 to 2038. This is due to the fact that our software uses the CTime class from the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC). For a more detailed description on this from Microsoft Corporation click here.

Q: When I split in C:\TEMP or C:\WINDOWS\TEMP I can't create a reassemble batch file?
A: The batch file gets created in the same temporary directory, so there ends up being a filename conflict. Try splitting in a subdirectory of the temporary folder or in a different directory altogether and the batch file should be created OK. We'll try to fix this in the next release.

Q: Does MasterSplitter work with Windows 98?
A: Although we haven't had a chance to test it ourselves, there is no reason why it shouldn't, and our users are telling us that it works fine. More on this later.

Q: I just bought version 1.7 of MasterGauges for Windows 95. Can I get a free upgrade?
A: Yes. Although the only difference between version 1.7 and 1.9 is NT 4.0 support, minor fixes, and improvements to the help file. If you want it be e-mail, just send me an e-mail with your full name, address, and registration number, and I'll send it to you. If you want a 3.5" disk, you'll have to send the same information by regular mail with $2.50 for postage and handling.

MasterGauges Issue:
Note that if you are running OSR2 (Windows 95 4.00.950b), that the reported disk space for disk drive partitions bigger than 2Gb may be inaccurate. To find out what version of Window 95 you’re running, right click on the "My Computer" icon on you desktop and select "Properties". If you don’t see the little "b" after the version number, then you’re not running OSR2. This should be fixed in the next version.

Q: I just bought version 1.0 of MasterSplitter for Windows 95. Can I get a free upgrade?
A: Yes. If you bought version 1.0 of MasterSplitter for Windows 95, you are eligable for a free upgrade to version 1.7. If you want it be e-mail, just send me an e-mail with your full name, address, and registration number, and I'll send it to you. If you want a 3.5" disk, you'll have to send the same information by regular mail with $2.50 for postage and handling.

Q: The Setup.exe program included with Version 1.0 of MasterSplitter gives me the error missing source files when running from the root directory of the A: or C: drive?
A: Download the newest version.

Q: Why do I get the error "Error opening file" when trying to split a folder?
A: MasterSplitter is a file splitter not a folder splitter. However, you can easily do this. First, just zip the files or folder you want into one zip file. Then split the zip file.
